Getting ready for a trip to Dubai and wondering what you need? The essentials are great. Layer your clothing to maximize space. Jeans and T-shirts are perfectly acceptable but avoid graphic tees or anything that could be construed as protest, political, incendiary, and avoid profanity and lewd. Keep it simple with linen trousers and long shorts for men and maxi dresses and skirts for women.

Don’t overpack for your trip, especially if you have planned activities that will have you on the move for a full day. Glamma Travels Dubai group trips allow you to bring two pieces of luggage, up to 23kg each piece. We suggest that you begin your trip with 11-14kg each piece and that allows you to shop and bring back souvenirs.  You may also find that you want to wear some of your haul while you are at the destination, therefore needing even less options brought from home.

We wanted to share 13 things we recommend for your trip to Dubai.

  1. You will absolutely want to make sure that you have your travel adapter for a trip to Dubai. For Dubai and places within the UAE the associated plug type is G, which is the plug that has three rectangular pins in a triangle pattern. Dubai operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. For smaller devices like your phones and tablets, an adapter will do. For devices that require more power, such as your laptop or plug in shavers, you will most likely require a converter. We opt to bring battery operated shavers.

Please note: most CPAP machines are dual voltage (check your machine’s power cord) and only require an adapter, but you want to be sure prior to your trip.

2. Neck and travel pillows can make a long flight more comfortable. They have some cool and inventive inflatable pillows that allow you to really utilize your space for sleeping. You want to be as comfortable and well rested as possible so that you have plenty of energy when you reach Dubai.

3. Being able to stand up and walk around or stretching is limited on a plane; therefore, promoting blood circulation is necessary. Compression socks help to increase circulation, thus preventing swelling in your lower legs and feet, according to the professionals.

4. TSA approved insulin cooler. Overall, it’s one of the most fuss-free ways of keeping your insulin pen and refrigerated medicines safe while traveling. Compact and lightweight design that can fit in bags, pockets, and backpacks easily. Make sure to carry your prescriptions and instructions.

5. Neck Wallet. Even seasoned travelers can easily become a victim of theft by getting too comfortable. But carrying your valuables in an anti-theft neck pouch can help you prevent theft and make you feel safer knowing your wallet and passport are safe and secure

6. A lipstick sized portable charger is highly recommended. Even though phones have longer lasting batteries now days, you can use a lot of life using google translate and maps and taking pictures and video. It’s a good idea to always have a back-up that allows you to fully recharge your device at least once.

7. Glamma Travels has been really impressed with the video and picture angles from the Gimble selfie-stick and stabilizer. Although you must be very careful NOT to take pictures of people (even indirectly) without their permission, it should help with great pictures in front of iconic landmarks.

8. We recommend a reliable travel backpack that you can also use as a daypack when you go out for tours and exploring the world around you. Anti-theft protection is a big plus when selecting a backpack.

9. A pashmina or lightweight scarf is a versatile item that you will find yourself happy to have most days of your Dubai trip. You can use it to cover your head or shoulders when entering mosques or holy sites. You can even use it to cover your face on a sandy camel ride in the desert. Or use it as a fashion accessory.

10. When women are considering what to wear/bring on their Dubai trip, I say you can’t go wrong with a long skirt or maxi dress. Dubai is a modern city. I like to be mindful and respectful of culture and personally pack clothing that covers my knees and shoulders.

11. I’m a sucker for a cute pair of sunglasses. Bonus points if I can see out of them. LOL! I love the inexpensive and flashy sunglasses that I can enjoy and not be heartbroken if I leave them in another country, or another sea, as is usually the case with me.

12. Travel laundry bags are an added delight for me because the ones I usually take from the hotel rooms rip and are made of plastic. This is fantastic when I must move around to more than one destination during a vacation.

13. A handheld weight scale for luggage comes in very handy when you have been shopping in Dubai and you don’t want to be stuck at the airport check-in line with your belongings strewn about as you desperately try to avoid extra baggage fees.
