Ready for a cultural adventure! It’s time you indulged yourself in the Afro-Colombian culture of sunny Cartagena.
Spend endless days and nights in a beautifully preserved colonial town on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Lap up all the cocktails you can consume in the tropical heat and enjoy the tourist attractions.
Not sure if it’s right for you? Here’s what you need to know.
- You can take a boat to the islands.
If you need some white sand and clear turquoise waters to complete your trip, then don’t despair. The beautiful islands of Islas del Rosario, Islas del Encanto, and Playa Blanca are just a short boat trip away.
These are great spots to snorkel, get a few great shots, or just lay there in all your glory. If you have some time to kill, spend the night on one of these islands, or make it an island-hopping adventure.
- Cartagena does get crowded
Because of its easy access and affordable flight prices, you can’t be surprised that this place gets crowded. If you’re traveling solo, this might be an exciting way to meet new people.
On days you prefer fewer people, try hitting the streets much earlier in the morning. You will experience this gorgeous city from a different perspective during the quieter hours. And get those great snaps with less obstruction.
- No need to hire a car.
Exploring the many attractions of Cartagena is simple by foot or taxi. However, if you’re keen on the main attractions in the city, you can easily do this on foot.
For everything else, use a taxi service. Uber works well here, and Easytaxi is their local alternative.
Always carry small bills for the taxi rides so you’re not left struggling for change. Also, before the
journey, confirm the price of the trip with the driver.
- You can dance like nobody’s watching!
Cartagena is a great place to let your hair down and go dancing. There are countless clubs and bars, but the best ones are in the old town. The old town is the perfect place to go dancing because of the incredible live music, friendly people, and nonstop dancing! And the best part is you won’t have to worry if you don’t have rhythm or lack the best moves. Everyone else will be too busy dancing to notice.
- Don’t delay booking your room.
I can’t stress this enough! Book early to secure a comfy place to rest your pretty little head. Because of Cartagena’s popularity, the good spots get booked faster than you would expect.
You want to ensure that your room has air conditioning, a good bed, and great amenities! If you wait too long, you’ll be left with the less desirable options.
- It’s hot, hot, hot there.
Be prepared for the heat that hits you as you get out of that airport. That 80% to 90% humidity is on another level.
Cartagena experiences humidity all year round, so no matter when you go, ensure you’re prepared to experience the heat. Luckily, your room (cause you’re going to book early) and most restaurants and cafes have air conditioning.
Remember to stay hydrated, use plenty of sunscreen, and don’t forget those floppy hats.
A visit to Cartagena means visiting a lively paradise with plenty for you to do and see. Since it’s considered one of the most popular destinations in Latin America, I know you won’t be disappointed.
